Jake was born in a well off military family; his father was a marine of the Royal Navy. Jake was thrown into a boy’s school for the rest of his life due to that’s what happened to his father and grandfather. When it came time for Jake to choose a path, he chose Starfleet. His father discontinued talking to him after that as being a Royal Marine was a family tradition. But Jake never really cared for tradition. He wanted to explore space, not defend an ocean. Jake applied to the academy and scored high marks, not wanting to choose medical or sciences he focused on the navigation and pilot courses due to they are the ones driving the ships. It was during this time that Jake showed his recklessness, during a training exercise he broke off from the squadron to chase sensor readings which turned out to be a Vulcan science ship that was scanning the Earth’s oceans for something. Never reprimanded due to the Vulcan’s insistence of him being quiet he was allowed to continue becoming a pilot, but his distrust of Vulcan’s was settled. He never found out why they were there, and the Vulcan’s never told him either. Vowed to silence by the Vulcan High Command and Starfleet Head Quarters, he graduated with honours in navigation and piloting.

His luck seemed to be true when he was assigned to Enterprise, under the command of Captain Archer. He was there when the Enterprise was transporting the Klingon back home. There he came in contact with many species as well as some enemies. Taking over from Ensign Mayweather when the man was busy elsewhere. Jake realised he wanted to be like Captain Archer, therefore he focused on command studies. He was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and was reassigned to the Intrepid. Though not as exciting as Enterprise, the Intrepid dealt with Home issues such as convoy protection. That ended when Earth was attacked by the Xindi. When Enterprise was sent out to find the Xindi, Jake transferred over as Assistant Chief Armoury Officer to Lieutenant Reed. What happened in the Expanse, is with Jake forever. As Jake wouldn’t talk about it to anyone, what they did out there and what happened to them was more than enough. When Enterprise got home, Jake transferred off to the Columbia. The ship needed experience crew and Jake had enough to be her First Officer, promoted to Lieutenant Commander. He served her for many years, his loyalty never wavering. He was selected to be the Captain of the Challenger, but that was given top someone else. But when Discovery came around Jake applied and it was accepted. He is unsure if he can handle to responsibility of commanding an NX Class ship.
